"I'll Take Manhattan"

Like the song says 'I'll take Manhattan'. Definitely. Seven glorious days in one of my favorite places in the world for the fall New York Bridal Week turned out to be the trip of a lifetime. At the show, we mingled (the 'we' being my husband, Bret), met many in all areas of bridal and talked about the fine details of every woman's magical day that keeps us all creating, selling and celebrating. When the curtain went down on the Bridal show each eve, we hit the parks, penthouses and playpens of the greatest city in the world. On Saturday night, we toasted to Bride's magazine and its stellar associate publisher Lori Silver at the fabulous Bride's White Hot Hope Party. Very well done, Bride's. The party was a 'people' party and I left the quaint venue with 20 BFFs -- including Lori Silver, Karen Mason of the New York Times and 'Say Yes to The Dress' star, Randy Fenoli. I'm certain I'll be hosting some fun LA weekends for my newfound friends at Bride's(!) . . . . welcome any time girls (that includes you, Randy!). Sunday evening brought a special invitation from the beautiful Urvi Tejani and Mr. Manhattan, Skip Pleninger, to eventertainer Colin Cowie's website launch party at The Glass House penthouse. Sexy, mini-skirt adorned women on four-foot pedestals were choreographed around the room and played electric violins to bombastic hip-hop as the crowd cheered Cowie on to his next venture --- what a sight in the luminous, intimate room for the 200 guests, each lit by the glowing backdrop of the city's brilliant skyline. And, we closed the wonderful, hard-working weekend (in New York, Monday can still be the weekend!) with a tri-fecta -- first, as guests of Martha Stewart's 10th Annual Market Celebration at her Chelsea-based OmniMedia headquarters; second, at The Knot Gala at the not-so-quiet but oh-so-gorgeous NY Public Library at Bryant Park (what hallowed halls!); and, last but certainly a feast, rested our pups over a delectable burger at the Burger Joint within Le Parker Meridien --- the best Route 66 late-night fare when cruising the Time-Warner turns near Park South. So, you ask, was it exhausting? Did it feel like my wedding weekend all over again? Yes and Yes. But, when you have to leave Manhattan, what can you say? I'll do it with a sigh as I am missing the words and that wonderful city already.

Lalique Beverly Hills Welcomes Art Deco Society of Los Angeles
Beverly Hills, CA -- My always enlightening sojourn along the faceted path of fashion brought me to a fortuitous fork in the road where two great entities merged -- The Lalique boutique on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills graciously hosted the Art Deco Society of Los Angeles for a night to take in a presentation and the charm of Craig Zehms. Over scrumptuous hors d'houvres and palate-pleasing Chardonnay, Zehms gave a wonderful presentation of founder Rene Jules Lalique, one of the world's greatest glass makers and jewelry designers of the Art Nouveau and Art Deco periods. An imaginative and creative artist, designer, and industrialist, it is said that' his work bears the mark of our complicated civilization, a thirst for elegance, novelty, comfort and luxury. To this day, Rene Lalique is referred to as the 'Rodin of Transparencies'.

Mercedes Benz Fashion Week at Lincoln Center

September 11, 2010 - Today was my first day at Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week at Lincoln Center in the heart of Manhattan. Such a beautiful venue with the majestic fountains greeting journalists, editors, models photographers and guests as they arrived. Everything was in order with complementary Frappuccino from Starbucks and complementary hair styling from TRESemme. I enjoyed visiting with my favorite project runway celeb, Tim Gunn. He said he knew about my line through Heidi Klum who owns one of my vintage couture necklaces.
Charlotte Ronson was the first show I attended. The look was free-flowing desert bohemian with pleated skirts and long, paisley tunics. 1990's grungy granny, bulky socks with (gasp!) sandals. Music was blasting by Charlotte's DJ sis, Samantha.
Next show Z Spoke by Zac Posen where I met Neiman Marcus Fashion Director Ken Downing, who will be speaking at Los Angles County Museum of Art (LACMA) in November. The show was also attended by Kimora Simmmons and xhubby /music mogel Russell, Clare Danes, Carmen Electra , Christina Hendricks, Michele Trachtenberg, Kristin Cavalleri, Jaime King, Estelle and Brett Ratner. The lower-priced Z-Spoke line was fun and flirty with an edge. Very colorful, lots of short dresses with ruffles and sky-high platform heels. A variety of colors from corals and butter yellow to grays and autumn tones. The evening was complete with a walk through Times Square, some jazz music. Finished the evening in Brooklyn gazing at the laser lights above what-once-was the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center on this ninth anniversary of their fall. Sigh.

Fashion's Night Out, New York City
The concierge at the Chatwal New York Hotel, Brandon, formerly Tom Ford's butler encouraged me to start Fashion Night Out at Gucci on the upper east side of Manhattan. Gucci was quiet, but very welcoming. I then ventured across the street to Dolce & Gabbana who had live scantily clad mannequins dancing in the windows. The evening was hosted by supermodel Naomi Campbell at its Madison Avenue store to celebrate the 25th anniversary of her career along with a dance performance by Ms. Campbell herself (and the live manequins). Limited-edition t-shirts with Naomi's image sold to raise money for her charity, Fashion for Relief. Things got more exciting when Naomi performed a dance routine on the red carpet. After, I enjoyed visiting Patrick Delmarchelier (who has photographed covers for every fashion magazine included Vogue's Paris, British and American editions) and had my photo taken with him by model Tyson Beckford. I told Tyson "I know you are used to being in front of the camera". Crowds were crazy as (gasp) Chris Brown strolled in. I then continued down Madison Avenue and enjoyed Dior, Lanvin, (where I met the legendary Supermodel Carol Alt), Asprey and many other designer boutiques. Champagne was flowing everywhere and the streets of New York were overflowing with fashionistas well past midnight. Rockefeller Center, where Jennifer Lopez had just performed, was my last stop.

Showing At New York's "Leading Hotels of the World"
Here I am in new York City for Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. I started the week by visiting the new Leading Hotels of the World Chatwal, New York City where my jewelry line is sold. I was impressed to see a beautifully restored historic art deco hotel with accoutrements fit for a head of state. Former president Clinton stayed at the hotel the week previous. The suites are unbelievably detailed with leather closet doors and tables, televisions built into the bathroom mirrors, oak paneling and terrazzo floors. The Chatwal, located in the famous Beaux-Arts Theatre District, is bringing glamour back to Broadway. The suites will be amongst the most expensive in the City and my original Art Deco, one-of-a-kind jewelry is reflective of the hotels sleek interpretations of the Deco Empire style.
